i can tell time now!!
just a quickie..

it arrived in the post yesterday and i just picked it up. its so much much more gorgeous in person.. erm.. i mean in real life. lol but its a tad too big so im gonna haf to adjust that. most of u guys know that i've been waiting for this watch since the beginning of time (well.. it was quite a while bah!) so im ecstatic!

the sakainess of Bruneians
it snowed today!!
it was soo gorgeous just watching the flakes fall..
unfortunately, it didnt snow hard enough. the campus is still green.
but still, looking out the window and see snowflakes fall.. it was lovely =)
i was over at nis' for lunch and it was around that time that it started snowing and we were just awed by the view of falling snow through her window (despite the bird shit hahaha). so me and nis, being typical sakai bruneians, opened the window, stuck our hands out (simultaneously too lol) and tried to catch snowflakes on our hands! it was freezing, but it was so cool! we didnt manage to catch any tho =s
but wait!
it gets better. i had this idea of sticking out sumthing black so we could see the shapes of the snowflakes and the only black thing around was anisah's black file so we stuck the file out of the window to catch snowflakes. u guys shudve seen us. it was soo funny. i can't imagine what a passerby would think, seeing two girls at a window (with bird shit) with their hands sticking out in the freezing weather.
so nis was trying to catch snowflakes, her hands out of the window holding the file, and as soon as she catches some big flakes we pull the file in to look close but the damn flakes just keep melting so fast!!
this process was repeated a few times till i realised, and so promptly pointed out, that the heater was just below the window which was why the flakes keep melting so fast!
and it gets better!
sometime when we were giggling and being sakai over the snow, someone passed by an adjacent window. nis just pulled her file in and i was trynna close the window but it wudnt so we just laughed till the person went away.
that was funny. haha.
its been a while since ive been to nisah's.
if u dont find that funny, then im just bad at telling the story.
u just gotta be there. kan nis?

monkeys and snow
i've got the song 'let it snow' stuck in my head.
it snowed in nottingham lastnite. it also snowed in london. and in loughborough. and in manchester lastweek.
starting to sound like the weather report? haha im just envious cos it hasnt friggin' snowed in kent since i've been here. oh yes, well alrite, technically the few flakes that lasted for 5 seconds at noon today counted. and additional flakes at around 2 ish. but then it RAINED!! so the ground's wet so even if it does snow it'll be slush, not pretty perfect lovely white snow =S
my corridor mates find my excitement at the prospect of snow sad.

me (bouncing on my heels cz i was so excited) "yes! yess! its gonna be so0o0o cool!"

me "i come from the TROPICS dave! u'll be just as excited when u go to brunei and see a monkey at your window!"
haha that was how the conversation basically went. but yea dave admitted that he would be excited if a monkey came to his window.. which is kind of like a daily occurrence for most bruneian households.
anyway, im stil hoping for snow. white pretty as-seen-on-tv snow.
dave and chip gave me permission to wake them up if it does snow. then we can ALL play in the snow together!!! wheeeeeeeeeeeeee!

last nite was sweet of my corridor mates to throw me a party. they got me cake, chocolate and pepsi. they tried to get me some non-alcoholic wine (??) but they dont sell any here. haha cmon la.. d brunei ada la.. sini siapakan kan minum non-alcoholic wine? anyway, guests were chris, nick, chip, sarah, tom, dave (who dissapeared b4 midnite so still owes me a birthday wish), rory and guest of honour was of course, me, the birthday girl!
i made the guys sit through 2 chick flicks, hitch and 50 first dates. then i got to cut the cake and blow out nick's lighter twice (1 flame for ten years perhaps??) bcoz they cudnt get any candles. after that we just hungout in the corridor coz chip had to go to bed (we were watching the movies in his room). oh and yes, i got to play with the fire extinguisher lastnite!! haha first time ever, on my 20th birthday to fire (dont mind the pun) a fire extinguisher.

the reality behind a lawyer's job
steve pethick, my critical introduction to law lecturer, never fails to point out this fact in every single lecture
"lawyers are just mechanical robots programmed to interpret the law for the public."
so, not at all exciting like what we see in boston legal, the practice, etc etc.
so in other words, law students like myself, are just using our 3 yrs of uni to learn how to interpret statutes and cases into sound law for the understanding and comfort of the public. and for all that hard work, at the end of it all, we get wat is called a law degree.
now whoever said a lawyer's work was exciting?
unless, of course, ur a lawyer in america. which is basically where those exciting tv series about lawyers are based anyway. why?
because americans are realists and the british and formalist, and since brunei follows the uk system, hence we are formalists too.
but all this is blatant gibberish to u guys. it was to me too until today's lecture.
to put realists and formalists simply,
in america, the lecturer asks "how would u argue this case [to win the argument]?"
in the UK, lecturers go "how do u apply the law to this case?"
which clearly shows wat i was talking about at the beginning. here in the UK, law students are trained to just interpret and apply laws. in america, its more the real stuff, they concern more on the outcome of cases rather than wheather the correct rules and laws were applied; hence they're realist.
im starting to sound like a boring lecturer now. but my point is, law students are just mechanical robots. u can say we're super robots for having the skill ton interpret and apply laws, but its no skill. its just practice.
so then why do lawyers get paid big bucks?
becoz its a boring and long and tedious job.

today has been very dissapointing. the eliot receptionist misplaced my package that contains my charger so now i cant use my fone yet. somehow my package magically 'dissapered'! plus, the boyfren is in kk so i can skype with him. so, i decided to make a happy list! haha well, im gonna list down two actually. and the first one is not for the unromantic =p
why i love my boyfren

20) he's always been there for me through thick and thin and even tho we've only been together for a year, we've been thru A LOT

anniversary present
hello! i cant believe i havent even told u guys this, seeing that im always showing off my boyfren =p
hehe.. well.. anyway, 12th of january was our 1-year anniversay and he got me this gorgeous necklace. pretty? =D
his anniversary present is on the way. its with shuk at the moment but it will reach him soon. okay syg? i hope u like wat i got u.
second news flash, i washed my southpark pillow for the first time in 2-3 yrs? lol basically its clean now. just look at how green and clean it is! those of u who remember wat color it usually is will be able to appreciate how truly clean my southpark pillow is.

boring sunday
i managed to do a HUGE chunk of work for my obs1 seminar so HURRAY! its almost finished. and i knw u guys mite think wat a slowpoke i am to take almost 2 days to finish just 1 seminar work but we're dealing ideologies this time and it is not easy!
but then again, wats easy in uni?
i finally met sarah, my long-lost corridor fren hahaha. and again, i just missed seeing her little sister, ella! god i miss that girl. hopefully when she next comes i'll be able to catch her =)
i chatted with my buyai today. that was a nice cathing up. by the time i balik brunei her house will have taken form! oh god i've missed alot. she filled me in with news about her.. shes flying off to kl next week! oh well.. she took me last yr.. this time shes taking my two brothers. well haf fun guys!
lastnite was one of those nites where i felt almost home. i hung out with the guys in chip's room while they watch football highlights. kinda like wat i'd be doing in brunei with my brothers coz thats wat we usually do. well, not reli, but dats wat my brothers do and i'd just patiently sit thre till that football thingy finishes so i can change the channel into something more informative lol
then we watched a bit of rambo. too gory for me so i left mid-movie. which was a good thing, coz the boyfren whom i left asleep on skype was up and thot i wasnt talking to him coz i didnt answer his calls. sorry syg! hehe
oh oh and happy news! i got a pakage! haha and for those of u who knw wat im expecting that is, that beauty above.. well i dont think thats it. i tink its my charger from nottingham. but thres tomoro and thres a possibility that that baby comes tomoro. so wish me luck!

creepy but not crawly =D
hello all! =D
im feeling a bit chirpy now that my period cramps are gone and i just had a dose of those happy drugs that come from eating chocolate hehe.
i had a conversation with tashry about how ppl are kacau-ed by 'spooks' or 'spirits' or watever u call them. it was interesting. some ppl can see these 'things' but some cant. i see it as a burden for those ppl who can see becoz we're not meant to see these things rite? okay i knw im going on a vague tangent here but the bruneians will know what im talking about.
its common news in brunei hearing ppl in 'hysteria' and watnot. common, but still sure as hell exciting.
it goes well with the busy body spirit of true-blue bruneians =p
all i can say is, and i hope i dont sound hypocritical when saying this, is that kuatkanlah iman. and taking a quote from ka nadz
"Tuhan tidak akan menguji hambanya d luar kemampuannya"
or sumthing like that.
on a happier note, i have been very very productive today, despite total pain-in-the-ass-made-me-cry period cramps. no, i didnt manage to finish my seminar prep for either obligations or con and add but i did do a considerable amount of work for obs1 and im proud to get that much done on a saturday nite, so a pat on the back for me is due =)
what i DID manage to do is
1)post effy her stuff. so effy, ur barang will arrive by next week, say friday the latest.
2)i bought 5pounds worth of sugar ie chocolate and cookies. keeps the period cramps away. well, it works for me but dont quote me on that
3)wore my new shoes to town! it was drizzling a bit but thank god, no damage done to still-good-as-new-lovely-leopard-print-shoes-with-pink-bow.
so thre u have it. wasnt i good? hehe and i stress, my period came today and as the females will be able to relate well to, period cramps hurt. and i also got a surprise call from my nini adi. she's in london now, we talked for a bit. it was nice to hear from someone who just came from brunei. so anyway, the plan is that i go to london next weekend to meet all of them and lawat aunty ita and her new baby girl, hana zahirah (hopefully i spelt that name right)
oh oh and i met *dave, tom and chip in the corridor (well, actually they knocked on my door. wanted to check on me coz they havent seen me in a while. isnt that sweet of them? i quote dave "ur special rabz coz ur the only girl hre" hehe coz sarah hasnt come yet) and they promised me that we'll have a birthday party for me on the eve of the 17th in our corridor, with cake and PEPSI! haha coz i havent seen a single pepsi can since i got here and i quote tom "yea we'll get u pepsi. only for the birthday girl" or something along those lines. god im so gonna miss them when we all live separately next yr!

people come and go..
i found this somewhere on the net. its worth a read. specially dedicated to those who still cling to their past. hopefully this will help you move on =)
People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime. When you know which one it is, you will know what to do for that person.
When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end.
Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.
Some people come into your life for a SEASON, because your turn has come to share, grow or learn. They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it, it is real. But only for a season.
LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons, things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. I HUNGERRRRRRRRRR!!
im so so so hungry. haha god u shudve heard my stomach rumbling masa critical intro lecture tdi. it was loud! haha well, not loud la, but it was continuous, which was worse. now im just waiting for bianca to finish her ciggie so we can go to her room and eat maggie!
haha yes ppl. for those of u who dont knw wat its like to live a life of a uni student overseas, its maggie and indo mee.
and i got back my obs1 essay =s not so good.. but at least i passed. considering how little work i put into it, i guess the grade was fair. but still, i'd need to go up from this grade i got, definitely. sigh. im still waiting for other essays. i hope its not as bad as this. just as long as i PASS all my papers, i'll be happy.

first day of spring term!
okay. haha i just had to put that title slapbang in the face. haha woohoo but my lecture doesnt start till 4 so technically im still on holiday. coz im stil here, in bed with my polka-dots and striped pink and red and white pjs and my hair's still curled from 2 nites ago. haha yes i havent washed my hair. but i wil as soon as i finished this post.
im not gonna bore with with wat happened ystrdy in detail coz i wudnt wanna read sumthing like that so im just gonna list down the fun parts.
so anyway, i slept early lastnite and apparently my corridor mates had a mini party. they knocked on my door and from wat i can remember (coz i was half asleep that time) was that i vaguely moaned that im back but
*i just got a call from kash saying he was downstairs.. to collect his present lol. more later*
that im asleep or sumthing. and i said goodnite and happy new year. maybe i was sleeptalking. haha i'll need to ask chris and nick about that later.
on a happier note (coz the idea of me sleeptalking first nite of spring term is a bit worrying), i met bianca! hehe she's back from hong kong and it was nice to see her even tho i cant hug her coz we both stink, her from the 13hr flight and me from having just woke up.
now, the kash story. as we all know, it was his birthday ystryday and i got him a present. i told him when we cud meet up and so this morning he texted me saying he was at grimond. i hadnt showered yet so i obviously couldnt meet up. then he called to say he was downstairs (this was when i stopped mid-post to go down and meet him) and so now a very happy mr prez has got his birthday present.

next agenda, my birthday. i want to do sumthing but i dont knw wat. plus its on a wedsnesday, probably the most boring and inconvenient of nites for birthdays. hmm..
well i gotta go shower.

a fantabulous beginning to spring term!
hi again! haha okay i know. im jobless. this would be my third post of today. but this is just so0o news-worthy and i KNOW most of u guys will be green with envy!
okay, so i just checked my kent email and i discovered that
a) theres only one criminal law lecture for the first week. which means i only haf one lecture this monday. and that doesnt start at 4 or 5 pm (gotta check my timetable again lol)
b) theres no criminal law seminar for the first week! so that leaves me another extra hour free for me! yayyy!!
haha. now thats a great start to a new term. hit me with the law facts slowly by cancelling classes. now arent u guys just jealous? =p

me and ka nadz are pms-ing. shes TRYING to do her essay and im, as always, skyping with the boyfren. and we're indulging ourselves in sumthing that most females try to deny themselves of, homemade chocolate brownies with vanilla ice cream! mmhhmm..

Shoe sisters!
yesterday me ka nadz and ka sel went shopping! hehe i've had my eye on these leaopard print shoes for quite a while, waiting for the price to go down and now that its down from 24.99 to 16, i just bought them straight. so why shoe sisters? coz ka nadz wanted the shoes too so she got them too, so then we persuaded sel to get them so now all three of us have the same shoes! yayy! haha aren't the shoes just gorgeous?

muhajab babes
im back in canterbury, in my favourite place (after my room) here, which is lavender mews, and waiting for my boyfren to wake up.
SCHOOL STARTS IN 2 DAYS!!
haha wat a joykill i am. well, im in the living room of 18 lavender mews and in front of me is ka nadz reading her notes (while watching gilmore girls lol)on the couch and just behind her, on the dining table is ka sel, on the laptop doing HER coursework.
i feel left out. maybe theres a coursework that i've forgotten. actually, no thanx. i'd rather blog.
so, this post has an interesting title. i saw ka nadz reading this book called muhajababes. i havent read it, but just reading the blurb i can tell i'd like it. the book's about young muslim women who wear the hijab, but still haf fun and basically have socially active lives. and thats a cool thing, balancing what Allah wants us to do with stuff that WE want to do.
okay, i know this may sound hypocritical, seeing as i've just started wearing the hijab about 2 months ago, and i've always been kusut before when asked to wear the hijab. but somehow, Alhamdulillah, i found the calling to wear the hijab here, in canterbury, in a country where hijabs are only worn by the real muslim women. im not saying non-hijab wearing muslims are not real muslims, im just saying those people who were them here, in a foreign country, have a lot of faith to go thru wearing it, what with all the temptations to not wearing it.
i didnt get that calling when i was back home in brunei, where wearing the hijab was drilled into every young female by either parents or institutions. but i got it here, in a foreign country where skimpy outfits are acceptable. so why? i guess without family pressure or the goverment making me wear the hijab, i found that i actually do want to wear it. i guess one of the reasons why i didnt want to wear it was probably coz i wanted to rebel against what my parents wanted. im glad about this though. now i know that when i wear the hijab, its not because of my parents or school but for Allah and because i want to.
And i can also safely say that i can call myself a muhajab babe. i wear the hijab, but i dont lead a restricted social live. i know my limitations, but i know that i can still have fun. like last nite, me and the canterbury gang went to azouma for a nite of shisha (well, the others did. i dont shisha) and we saw some belly dancing. and (get this) i also got to dance with the belly dancer. yes, me, a hijab wearing girl dancing. nothing wrong with that right?
and i still shop, wear nail polish now and then and wear tank tops. i just dont wear sexy outfits out. just in my room. and i still wear earrings under my tudong and altho nobody can see my ears, its okay, coz i know i've got vogue earrings on. Plus, with ka nadz around, thre is no way a hijab wearing girl cant have fun. coz she makes the coolest all girls parties with the coolest themes. i cant wait for the next one hehe.
basically, what im trying to say is, wearing the hijab has not restricted my social life at all. and if it scares guys away, think agen, coz it gives me more power. u'll want ur boyfren to love u for u, right? and not that im looking for one, seeing as im attached. and my boyfren has been 100% supportive of me wearing the hijab and i love him for that.

a new beginning
its 2nd of january 2007. omgd. its 2007. i cant believe its already a new year.
in 15 more days, i will be 20. Oh. My. God. im reaching the big two-oh. i will no longer be a teen!
i dont knw if thats good or bad. i mean, on one hand, it means i can kawin early (lol apakan? yea thats all i ever talk about anyway =p) but on the other hand, im now a young adult. i cant get away with stuff like i used to. if i commit crime, i'll be charged as an adult, not a juvenile!! and that is big responsibilty!
which reminds me, i havent opened one single book on law during the past 2 weeks plus and skool is starting soon. =s i am so not looking forward to that. however, now i can go back to the usual cycle of things, go to lectures, seminars, weekends at lavender mews and hanging out at nis's. things will be just great!
plus, i'll be getting flowers on the 12th of jan. wat for? hehe i'll update u guys soon. but im sure most of u guys can guess right. till then, i cant wait to go back to canterbury and met mcnuts and mcnice. rome was fun. london was great and notts is nice but canterbury is where the heart is.
