Wedding: In a Nutshell part 4
its getting a bit tedious maintaining a blog. now that i have twitter (yes i've finally joined the masses! hehe), facebook and a husband to maintain hehe. but at the end of the day, you can only say so much on twitter or facebook and a blog lets me go on and on. whether u guys read my rants is anyone's guess =)
so here i am, a month later than my last post, rounding up the last post on the last event of my wedding. (does that make sense? sounds convoluted but oh well)
As mentioned in the last post, we weren't able to squeeze in a power nap so by this time, we were honest-to-god ngalih and just wanted it all over and done with. yes i get to wear more beautiful bajus/dresses but like i said, kalau ngalih, baju lawa atu pun macam membagi malas..
my husband and i both started getting ready soon after smbhyg maghrib. by this time, both my MUA and photographer were in the room, one painting my face and the other click-click-clicking away. i made a last minute change of wardrobe for my berambil-ambilan the day before due to the hoo haa of my bersanding veil not allowed to be touching the floor because inda kuasa. so rather than wear my deep purple kebaya from Aaliah Asmara (which had a slight mermaid cut that made the kain drag slightly on the floor), i decided to wear one of my grandaunt's baju songket. and yes, it fits me just fine. it amazes me how petite my mother and grandmothers were way back then!
(aside: i'm lucky to have to chance to wear the wedding attires worn by my grandaunt at her wedding; the songkets were almost 50 years old! i had a choice between a purple arap gegati kebaya or a white bunga sipugut baju kurung and opted for the white one.)
i paired the white baju kurung with a gold veil i rented from roza rohaya, jewelry that my father gave my mother as hantaran during their wedding in 1985, my late grandmother's gold and ruby tiara and my purple nine west shoe. it just so happens that the white songket has puple, red, gold and green so i was pleasantly happy with the overall results. the fact that i got to wear family heirlooms and vintage pieces was icing on the cake. in fact, i regretted the fact that i didnt wear the white outfit throughout my function!
Allow me to explain. i was set on wearing the white outfit throughout my function. however, one of my grandaunts (the younger, cool one hehe) convinced me to change into my purple outfit for the cake cutting because 'sayang jua. jauh2x kau ke beliat membuat, nda kan nda di pakai.' then the fact that the nenek who said inda kuasa kain sampai ke lantai wasnt coming to my ambilan.. so i made a dress change after my mother in law gave me jewelry on the pelamin, just in time for the cake cutting.
it was slightly chaotic becuase the only persons who knew about the dress change were aforemetioned grandaunt, my mother and my 3 bridesmaids. Guests were probably wondering why the bride&groom dissapeared off so quickly; i distinctly remember seeing the photographer looking a bit perplexed hehe.
the outfit change was one of the most last minute things that i advise future brides not to do, unless you have a dedicated team of bridesmaids. again, alhamdulillah for my bridesmaids who made everything run smoothly; one ensured that i had a matching tudong with the purple kebaya (the horror if we couldnt find one!) and that both baju and tudong were ironed, another set up the wedding cake to distract/entertain guests during bride&groom's absence (this bridesmaid also made the wedding cake - for free!) and another helped me get ready and buttoned the numerous buttons of my corset, pinned on my grandmother's tiara (it didnt match with the purple kebaya but by then i was just like 'what the heck') and they it was time to make the second entrance with my super-fast outfit change.
i forgot to prepare a place for the cake-cutting - so that was done quickly by my mother, my grandaunt and one bridesmaid while i changed. you see, its always the little things; but alhamdulillah it worked out okay, down to the knife, which was a normal kitchen knife tied with a gold ribbon (to match the gold lapik under the cake - which was actually one of my lapik gangsa hehe).
talk about drama, kan? one last minute outfit change and last minute prep of cake table.
after cake cutting and bersuapan with the cake, it was time to eat. because it was late, some guests went for the food straightaway while some stayed for bersalam2x with bride&groom. due to that, the bride and groom table were taken over by guests! hehe i guess the deco wasnt sufficient enought to show it was for bride and groom. anyway, we ended up eating at the table used for cake cutting (cake had been whisked off to kitchen to be served to guests) with my brothers. it had the more casual feel, like a family gathering for makan-makan. also, during the bersalm-salam my tiara kept coming off; i guess my bridesmaid didnt manage to pin it properly so i removed the tiara and wore a peacock feather headband (which was originally part of the ensemble anyway). 3 bridal looks in one night. not bad, ey?
after that, a few guests left and then it was picture time! with family, friends, and just us bride and groom. we werent as tired as during the bersanding photoshoot; probably because the ambil-ambilan was a more casual affair. i don't remember what time we actually got to sleep, but we definitely slept like babies that night!
phew! finally did the whole 4 part summary of my wedding! again, thank you to all those who made it possible!
much love,
be'ah xoxo
p/s a cousin is getting married in February 2012! we helped run errands last Sunday and it felt good to help someone so soon after getting married ourselves!
p/p/s we have a niece! my sister in law, who has been expecting throughout all 3 weddings (remember my 2 sister in laws got married a few months before and after ours?) has given birth to a healthy 3kg baby girl yesterday and i am beyond excited. makes me want to have one of my own! haha but first need to establish whether i really want one or just at the sake of baby envy. hee.

Wedding: In a Nutshell part 3
this is very loooong overdue. but as it is, things have been a little busy (and okay i admit, i was lazy). i promised myself that i had to make myself write this post because i know i'll regret it later.
part 3 is day of bersanding, 24 April 2011. but briefly, may i just touch on the night before, 23rd April 2011, the night where i had my henna done on my feet and hands. it was not a pleasant experience because:
a) it was cold. and i couldnt exactly cover my poor cold feet with a blanket lest i damage the pacar on it.
b) my nose was itchy throughout the night. and again, i couldnt scratch my noses unless i wanted to rock a rudolph look the next day.
c) the pacar on my feet was less than perfect. it pained me to see that it wasnt properly done and that i couldnt do anything about it.
d) i could not sleep at all.
so it the end, after determining that my feet and fingers were red/orange enough, i took them off (slowly because the pengangun was sleeping next to me), rinsed the residue under the tap and up i went to my bedroom to get a good night's sleep.
(mind you, i only slept properly at 2am.and the next morning, i think the pengangun was upset that i went off huhu)
so th next day, i was uber cranky because of the unpleasant experience. add to that the fact that my pengangun insisted i do a bertangas and mandi bunga, which i think is ridiculously unnecessary (and i am supported here by both my mother and grandmother) but we went ahead with it anyway because it was 'tradition'. however, managed to make the whole experience less painful as my grandmother told my pengangun (who is my nini tua, btw) that i can only do the bertangas for a few seconds cause we were running late to leave for polo club.
we were all suppose to leave at 8.30am, but due to the bride being cranky, the whole party left the hse at abt 9am, where the bride left on an empty stomach. talk abt antagonising the bride huh?
as soon as we arrived in polo, i was told that my veil wasnt allowed to drag on the floor because 'inda kuasa'. fudge me but i planned for the whole thing, for my goddamn veil to be cathedral length! so a very very pissed off me conceded to having the veil folded so that it only reached the floor. retrospectively, i shouldn't have been so difficult but that was my biggest day and it was very dissapointing to have your plans dashed just because someone says its 'inda kuasa'.
good thing abt polo was that food was served in the bride's changing room, so i got to eat before getting ready. after that, the whole shebang started taking place; i changed into my blouse (and a slip) while my face was made up. at this point friends and family were coming up to see me, which was fun! after my face was done (and all friends were told to go back to their seats), my bridesmaids pulled me to the bathroom to put on my skirt, which was to be worn as a sarong.
that experience in the bathroom was the defining moment of the relationship between bride and bridemaids. there i was, in my underwear and corset and having three ladies pin and pull the kain tenunan on me. aslo worth mentioning that one particular bridesmaid pinned me twice.
once i was zipped up into the pink bersanding dress, it was time to wear the tudong and tiara. once i was fitted in the full regalia, it was picture taking! then there was more waiting, because the groom was late by almost 20 minutes. i was brought up to the pelamin by both parents walking beside me, 3 flower girls leading the procession and my 3 bridesmaids bringing up the rear. the walk down the aisle was just a lot of flashes, glimpses of faces and a few 'hey rabz'. my dutiful bridesmaids promptly fixed my skirt and veil as i sat on the dais and i was telling myself to not look around so that my mata doesnt look 'liar'.
finally, the groom arrived and i could slowly lift my eyes up. the usual doa and bertapak went on, then it was berbasuh kaki!
berbasuh kaki was planned as a short one; my parents didn't want to fill the water vase fully so that people would get the hint. however more and more people came up to basuh kaki, up to the point that my nini idah has to refill the vase with mineral water from thrice. it was a great experience, albeit a cold one. altho i remember thinking at that time that i wanted to take pictures with friends and a few were already catching my eye and signaling their departure to me during the berbasuh kaki. (note: husband mentioned after the honeymoon that during the berbasuh kaki was the one and only time he has seen me so 'teranah').
after that was done, the usual pictures on the dais with friends who waited, and family. and then, the fun part, the picture taking between me and groom only! we went from the dais to the windows to the stairs to the surau to the bench outside and finally actually lying down on the grass.
admittedly we got great pictures out of it but i was quite hungry by that point. in the end, both bride, groom and one of my brothers left polo at aroun 4pm feeling very tired and hungry. we made a pitstop at kfc for food but we (bride & groom) stayed in teh car whilst my brother got the food. We got some funny looks from other cars since we were decked out in pengantin gear but driving the car was the groom himself. hehe.
by the time we reached home, took off all the make up, hung up our clothes and showered, it was already time to get ready for the berambil-ambilan! we were planning on getting a power nap squeezed in before the night's event but alas, our obligations as pengantin weren't over yet.
but that night's event will be for another post.
i'd like to end this post by saying thank to to everyone who came and made the event a success =D

Wedding: In a Nutshell part 2
2 days after my berbedak i had the most important event of the wedding; my akad nikah! hehe afterall, there is no wedding without an akad nikah.
i am still madly in love with my nikah dress. i've said it before and i will say it again. that dress was simply divine, luscious, beautiful amazing and just to die for!! =) im am ever grateful to Aaliah Asmara for designing the dress and equally grateful to my aunt who sponsored the vintage lace for the dress =D i cant count how many compliments i got for the dress! not counting the complaints from a few elders who thought the dress was too tight/see-thru/too long. well, you can't make everyone happy.
the most important person at the event (besides the bride, of course) loved the dress which was the whole point of driving up and down to KB to make the dress. if you can't guess, i mean my husband. i'll be honest, sometimes what i think is lawa on a baju isn't what he likes so i was really glad he liked what i was wearing that day.
that friday morning 22nd april 2011 was the first and only time i was dressed in proper pengantin gear at home ie in a while baju kurung and gold bangles on my ankles (previous i was just dressed in any old t shirt/stretch pants like i normally do). ppl were coming over early to help out and altho everyone was busy, i didn't feel any nerves at all up until i knew the groom had arrived hehe.
anyhow, just before lunch my aunt, who did the tenunan for my sanding, came over with a few sinjangs and told me to choose one so that i can add in to my balasan hantaran. i was torn between 2 and in the end she simplye told me to take both of them! i mean, these songkets do not come cheap so alhamdulillah for my rezeki that day.
things started to get hectic for me when it was time to get dressed. a few things happened at once; i needed to arrange the singjangs on a gangsa to make it part of the original 8 set of my balasan, the train on my dress needed ironing and my tudong was a bit see thru under the sun which required an extra underscarf.
again, my bridesmaids stepped in to save the day, all in the span it took for my make up to be done. somehow the 3 of them managed to organize themselves and by the time my face was done (which didnt take long because my MUA is talented like that hehe), my train was ironed, the sinjang was arranged on a gangsa and looked like it was part of the original set (which was done professionally i might add, so kudos to whichever bridesmaid did it) and pins were found for my tudong. can you believe i overlooked pins? pins! for my tudong! always the little little things..
anyway, once i was in the dress, pulled, tugged and buttoned on by the bridesmaids, tudong on, tiara pinned, veil on.. i was a picture perfect bride, all dressed in white. seriously, it was such a surreal feeling, on my berbedak, i felt very princess-y but during the nikah, it was all so grown up and so real! it was also when i started feeling the nerves! my cousin who was on skype was saying things like 'omgd rabz lawaaaa! inda kau nervous??' and things like that that i made her put on mute =s my bad.. but she wasnt helping my nerves then hee.
since my train was long and my shoes weren't tall enough, i had difficulty managing the stairs but my bridesmaids were so well trained that nobody slipped or fell. and may i also add that one bridesmiad was holding a laptop so that my cousin (on skype) could see the whole event? how awesome is that?
so i got seated on the huge square cushion made out of red jongsarat. let me tell u (and most of u prolly know/agree) that i am not one to sit still for a length of time. i tend to jingle my feet, tap my fingers or shift my body whenever i do have to stay in one place for a period of time. this case, however, i did not have that option.. unless i wanted to be known as an iski bride.. or something rude along those lines. then there was the corset of the dress, which made me sit up straight but in essence gave me limited movement.. so while i was sitting there and my dad read the khutbah and my then-fiance read his vows (yess my dad gave me away, no passing me to another wali to do the job! hehe), having to breathe in and out because i was nervous.. my left foot fell asleep.
it was really the worst case of pins and needles. i could hardly stand up and when i tried to walk (after we were pronounced husband and wife), i almost fell and had to grab hold of my brother's arm for support. due to that, i unfortunately didnt make the rounds to salam everyone and one genius bridemaid made me just stand on one spot so that guests could come and see me instead.
alhamdulillah the whole nikah thing came and went without a hitch. there were minor things like how my husband was made to wear a dastar by his family when we specifically wanted a songkok, but then it wasnt too bad and he did have his songkok in the car so during the photo session he just changed hats hee.
the photo session took forever.. i was tired but i didnt wanna stop because a) the photographers were pricey and b) i didnt knw when else i was gonna wear the dress so i wanted to get as many pictures as possible of me in the dress! in the end, the photogs finished just after maghrib and also new husband stayed until abt 8 plus! hee
he also came over the day after. no pantangs or pengangun can stop us! afterall, we were already husband and wife, nda kan d larang be jumpa, rite? i will never understand why some penganguns and even some parents dont allow the bride and groom to see eachother before their bersanding.
anyhoo, tis all for part 2 =)
much love,
rabi'a xoxo

so i got seated on the huge square cushion made out of red jongsarat. let me tell u (and most of u prolly know/agree) that i am not one to sit still for a length of time. i tend to jingle my feet, tap my fingers or shift my body whenever i do have to stay in one place for a period of time. this case, however, i did not have that option.. unless i wanted to be known as an iski bride.. or something rude along those lines. then there was the corset of the dress, which made me sit up straight but in essence gave me limited movement.. so while i was sitting there and my dad read the khutbah and my then-fiance read his vows (yess my dad gave me away, no passing me to another wali to do the job! hehe), having to breathe in and out because i was nervous.. my left foot fell asleep.
it was really the worst case of pins and needles. i could hardly stand up and when i tried to walk (after we were pronounced husband and wife), i almost fell and had to grab hold of my brother's arm for support. due to that, i unfortunately didnt make the rounds to salam everyone and one genius bridemaid made me just stand on one spot so that guests could come and see me instead.
alhamdulillah the whole nikah thing came and went without a hitch. there were minor things like how my husband was made to wear a dastar by his family when we specifically wanted a songkok, but then it wasnt too bad and he did have his songkok in the car so during the photo session he just changed hats hee.
the photo session took forever.. i was tired but i didnt wanna stop because a) the photographers were pricey and b) i didnt knw when else i was gonna wear the dress so i wanted to get as many pictures as possible of me in the dress! in the end, the photogs finished just after maghrib and also new husband stayed until abt 8 plus! hee
he also came over the day after. no pantangs or pengangun can stop us! afterall, we were already husband and wife, nda kan d larang be jumpa, rite? i will never understand why some penganguns and even some parents dont allow the bride and groom to see eachother before their bersanding.
anyhoo, tis all for part 2 =)
much love,

The Wedding: In a Nutshell part 1
i know i've been MIA for quite some time and i privatised this blog for a while but now that my husband's out to work, i need an outlet to vent and basically share anything that i forget telling him (because i am super forgetful).
so the last post says it was 4 more days to my wedding.. and today i've been married for 22 days! just over a week and then i'll be a 1 month old newly-wed.
so in order than i dont forget the crucials of my wedding, im going to lay it all out here, in brief (i hope! tho knowing me.. i tend to go on and on and on..)
this will be done in parts because there's a whole load that i wanna cover, even tho i say im being brief. so bear with me cause i wanna be able to read this post 20 years from now.
my first event was my berbedak which was held on the 22nd april 2011, on a week night no less. needless to say, what with the long commute to tutong and early working hrs the next day, non of my colleagues or friends could make it =(
however, i had my posse of bridesmaids. i know i've mentioned in previous posts how lucky i am to have them and how awesome and helpful they are, but my berbedak really pushed them in bridesmaid duties. how? read on..
my berbedak gear was on loan from a grandaunt, so it was proper authentic gold. however, my grandaunt did not have the 'bunga kertas' as part of her set so when my MUA was setting me up, she had to modify the headgear a bit so that my hair was cover. i had only one garland of fresh white orchids.. but being a very talented MUA, she pulled off the challenge effortlessly. i remember almost wanting to cry since my berbedak things were incomplete. 2 bridesmaids had to go off to Hua Ho to find some special paper just to make last minute flowers but i called tehm to come back (just as they reach hua ho, too!) when i thought i can get away without the full set.
then in walked my grandaunt, the one who owned the berbedak gear. now as an intro, this particular grandaunt is know as bossy, laser and pemarah in the family albeit we all know she is a very kind and sincere loving woman. she saw how the berbedak things were on me, and was immediately in a flurry of words and instructions and my poor make up artist was left speechless. she took off ALL the berbedak gear on my head and redid the whole thing in a matter of minutes in the proper old fashioned way.
now if you've noticed, the new way of putting on the berbedak gear is in such a way so that the bride won't be in so much pain the whole night. how my grandaunt put in on was the old original way, which hurt like h*ll. oh and my fresh garland of orchids? ruined!
my grandaunt made all 3 of my bridesmaids make the 'bunga kertas' from scratch using tissue paper, scissors, a thread and a needle. they made 2 garlands of the 'bunga kertas' and my grandaunt finished making me up, all in less than 40 minutes. there was so much activity in the room that my cousin, who was in australia and on skype, had to be cut off abruptly. my bridesmaids were flustered from cutting tissue paper and threading but i am grateful that they carried out they bridesmaid duties diligently.. i swear without them, that night would have been a disaster.
in the end, all the fuss and reconstruction of my headgear was worth it. the bunga kertas looked amazing, none of youse wudve guessed it was tissue paper if i didnt tell you. the groom's family came late as well, so the delay in redoing my head for the 2nd time didn't really make much difference.
the berbedak night was amazing despite the constant pain on my head. also, despite none of my friends being able to come, it was only then that i truly felt proud of being Bruneian, dressed in a vintage red kebaya jongsarat (my mum's which she wore for her bersanding!) and all the gold on my arms, feet and head, macam.. princess!! it was the event that i felt the most 'princess-y' and regal despite not having a groom around yet hee.
i have to say that the pain on the head is so worth it. i'd do it all over again, if i could. my berbedak, being my first official event as bride and getting all dressed up in the most regal outfit was just amazing, especially for someone like me whose been planning her wedding since eons ago! =)
anyhoo, i'll leave it there. sorry no pictures =) its all up on facebook already anyway.
much love,

breaking it down
so only 13 days left till my akad nikah on the 22nd.
i'll be honest here.. i am starting to feel the nerves, starting since yesterday.
it started as a flutter in the heart, but now and then i feel a quick spasm of nerves. like, nervous because oh-em-gee-its-next--next-week then i will be a wife! a wife, i tell you!!
quite life-changing y'know.
i think its due to most of the things being in place. i now have almost nothing to do so my mind worries about the day itself. what if he doesn't like my dress? what if i wake up with red eyes? what if i can't sleep the night before and look like the zombie the day?
what if i can't fix my tudong right? what if the flowers i wanted turn out wrong? what if my skirt falls off??
i digress. i'm babbling but like i said, i is startin' to feel the nerves. doesn't help that my dad says i should start getting a maid as soon as possible. like hello, i can't take care of mah own husband mahseylf?
13 days to go. to break it down, i only have 6 more working days, ONE more friday and TWO more sundays until i become a happy wedded woman.
one more friday. then its the Friday that will mark a new me. the wife.
and i can start saying 'husband'. hehe
much love,
Rabi'a xoxo

Officially next week
my first event to kick off the wedding, my wedding to the most gorgeous and understanding-est man, is officially next week.
17th April 2011 to be exact.
eeeeeppppssss. i am currently an excited and anxious and nervous and jumpy and hyper ball of emotions!
although the event is just badak-badak mandi.. i will officially be called a bride rather than a bride-to-be because my wedding has started!!
praying, hoping, wishing that the whole week runs smoothly and that any twitches and glitches and bumps to be either not be known to me or professionally covered by my posse of bridesmaids and family so that i may remain a calm, zen and ayu bride.
also praying for the ease of exam trials of the fiance, who's going to be having an exam in Singapore the weekend before our nikah. they just had to schedule it before our wedding ey?
hoping to start on a wonderful journey of marriage with a great big bang which is our wedding.
much love,
Rabi'a xoxo

3 weeks
to my first function ie badak-badak mandi.
and 26 more days till i am 'kaya and butter'.
Alhamdulillah the minor setback mentioned in the last post has been resolved. on the next day too! the vendor acknowledged that the mistake was on their part since they promised shipment would arrive in mid-march.. so they've agreed to let me have other almost-similar looking things at the same price agreed, even though the almost-similar looking ones were originally priced a bit more. and its all in stock so thank you Allah kerana mempermudahkan dan memberi jalan keluar =D
the weekend was pretty eventful but today (Sunday) is quite relaxing.. compared to Friday. Friday was hectic hectic all the way. thursday nite (malam jumaat), i left the office at 11.30pm and only reach the house in tutong by midnite so imagine how sleep deprived i was since i had to be up by 7.45 on friday just so i can make my 9.30am facial appointment in bandar on time. atupun i arrived late by 15mins because my parents wanted to talk to me before i left, seeing as the nite before they were already asleep by the time i came home.
needless to say i was in a deep slumber during the whole 3 hrs i was in the treatment room. finished at abt half past 12 and stopped at Lauren to pay off my baju pasal when i picked it up the day before, balum bayar bah tu hehe.
that friday evening there was a little gathering for my parents' siblings at the hse untuk 'berunding' and i had to give out the materials for my flower girls' baju too. so after Lauren i went off to Hokko in kiarong to get flower trimmings for the girls. i ended up staying longer than planned because i spotted the most gorgeous cotton voile and it was new and im a sucker for new kain and having got my paycheck a few days ago, on a whim i went and bought 3 different cotton pieces and proceeded to have it made into dresses at the tailoring in Hokko. the most part was spent negotiating on designs for the dresses and i only left hokko abt 2 hrs later.
yes, my whole lunch hr was spent in Hokko. hee but then i came over to mamacits, whose house is always stuffed to the brim with food and snacks so i satisfied my hunger pangs there. after mamacits i went to roz flower boutique to talk decor of the house in tutong.. which brings me to today's errands because i met up with the decorator at the house in tutong to discuss design and also for him to measure the walls and ceiling and watnot.
back to Friday.. after roz flower boutique i headed home just in time to shower and get dressed for the evening's 'perundingan'.
Lastnight my parents and i made a stop to my bersanding venue to discuss logistics. like when can the pelamin be set up, when can we send the campurs, what time do we come, what food do we want for the food tasting.. and so on. i expected us to just check out the place but the discussion with the event manager went on for 3 hrs and we didnt even get to checking the place out because there was a function going on.
i only have 3 weekends to do all the errands that i need to do!! gaaaaah. Alhamdulillah so far.. i just need more hours in a day for my sleep! today was a bit more laidback for me because i got to sleep in till 9.3oam (huraaay~ slalu nya mesti 8 or 7 bah) and then went to syiks' wedding and then rushed off to the airport to send off my mum to manila for a business trip. then i went to tutong to meet the decorator, sent off a few invitation cards and to first metro to buy kain cara melayu for the boys in my family.
this evening i plan to do retail therapy. mani pedi and a hair trim. whee~ simple pleasures of life =D
wedding errands left to do are... to get my bajus drycleaned and also to get my tudong jahit-ed. oh and of course keep on bugging the pelamin ppl, the florists etc to not forget my things! hehe im stickler for stuff like that.

minor setback
mum called me yesterday to say that the vendor cant ship my doorgifts for bersanding in time.
i was amazingly calm when i got the news. also, first number for the vendor to call was my number and i didnt get any misscalls from them. Mum's was second number to be contacted. i would've given them a proper bashing had they called me. However, i believe i gave them a good bridezilla tantrum when i found out they were gonna be late by 2 weeks from the date we expected. now bukan lgi late but kengsel!
but like i said, i was amazingly calm. i am almost at the end of this fun yet chaotic and stressful wedding-planning journey and all i can say is that i cannot wait for my marriage to start, especially if it means footrubs and backrubs after a stressy long day at work *hint to future husband* hehe.
anyhow, i've picked up my baju for bersanding yesterday. since i never had The Moment with the baju, i'm not really sure what i think of it now coz the process has been so gradual up to the point where i was seeing it almost every day.. so maybe others who havent seen it will think its gorgeous.
my parents had a different opinion on the top.. especially my dad. he said 'apa? baju sanding?' when i pulled the baju out of its cover. apparently he didnt expect the baju to be so tiny. maybe he forgot that i'm petite. its more or less the same size as my other bajus.. but then again, he's never seen any of my bajus on the hanger anyway.. its always when i wear it that he sees it.
pfft. men. interesting to actually get a reaction out of my dad tho.
also, i got a slight reality kick when i walked into my room lastnight after coming home form work around 9pm because it is no longer pink. gone is my virginal single room and staring at me were the curtains and walls of my marital bedroom.
i do like my room tho hehe. the new wallpaper and curtains make the room seem bigger and brighter. now to add a few knick knacks as furnishing and change my bedsheets, and voila bridal room!
so now my priority in my current to-do-list is to get an alternative doorgift for bersanding.. which i need in under a month's time. wish me luck!
much love,

thirty two days
Alhamdulillah, today has been another productive day.
today started at 10am and ended at 7pm but every second of that was filled with chores/errands i needed to do. and when i say 'need' i REALLY mean it because first strike-off from the list was a pelamin.
yes, exactly 30 days to my first function and only today have i decided on a pelamin.
it took a surprisingly short amount of time to choose one there and then, considering the amount of time i spent googling, researching, sketching, tossing and turning and agonizing over the pelamin design. i even dreamt about pelamins last night because i knew that today i had to make a final decision.
but alhamdulillah, i am blessed with honest, fashionable, fussy but practical bridesmaids. also, there was a new pelamin up on display today at nurhayana. One look at the new pelamin, i just knew i liked the frames (awu not the whole pelamin) because it didnt have chandeliers! hurray!!
so after discussing a bit with bridesmaid 1 and bridesmaid 2 (bridesmaid 3 couldnt make it and bridesmaid 4 is permanently unavailable due to study commitments and geographical difficulties), i decided on a colour, a centre and the rest of the details just flowed easily.
now i have a custom pelamin (which i had to pay extra but i am more than happy to do after what seems forever on coming to a decision) for berbedak and ambil-ambilan, thats one less thing to think about!
Dear Fiance also stopped by to join us and now he's got a pelamin as well. also chose his outfit for malam berbedak (because my dad's baju is just too tiny on him) and berziarah. Since the package was for a set, i had fun just choosing bajus because i was entitled to. so i got a beautiful pandan green and gold indian dress for my malam berpacar (which is actually non-existent but i'll just wear it on the night when im getting mehndi-ed) and a peachy silver kebaya for my badak2x mandi.
then i got to choose accessories and play princesses by trying on tiaras. fun!
Also made a pit stop at lauren to check out my baju bersanding and it is finally in its FINAL phase! now both bride and mind-reader bridesmaid agree on perfect colour and cut and i'll be able to pick it up on tuesday once they're done with stuffing it with more tulle (to enhance my derriere hehe).
last pit stop was kadai kain, to get the men in my family kain cara melayu for my nikah day.
please pray for me that everything goes as planned. amin!
much love,
rabi'a xoxo

Since the package was for a set, i had fun just choosing bajus because i was entitled to. so i got a beautiful pandan green and gold indian dress for my malam berpacar (which is actually non-existent but i'll just wear it on the night when im getting mehndi-ed) and a peachy silver kebaya for my badak2x mandi.
then i got to choose accessories and play princesses by trying on tiaras. fun!
Also made a pit stop at lauren to check out my baju bersanding and it is finally in its FINAL phase! now both bride and mind-reader bridesmaid agree on perfect colour and cut and i'll be able to pick it up on tuesday once they're done with stuffing it with more tulle (to enhance my derriere hehe).
last pit stop was kadai kain, to get the men in my family kain cara melayu for my nikah day.
please pray for me that everything goes as planned. amin!
much love,

less than peeptee daiyesssss
i will be a missus.
a missus to the most gorgeous man alive, i kid you not.
and also caring-est and understanding-est.
i tell you story.
so last weekend was his sister's wedding. i won't talk about the wedding but needless to say the whole weekend was tres tiring for me... and it wasn't even my wedding. so much so that by Monday, i was having these numbing headaches, sharp stomach pains, high fever and not to mention, frequent visits to the toilet.
and yes, despite all that i still showed up at the office Monday morning. granted i was clutching my stomach every now and then and letting out occasional 'owws' and also kept visiting the toilets. but my defense was simple - if i had to get out of the house to get an MC from the clinic, then i may as well be able to get myself in the office.
however, what really killed me was not the stomach pains nor the frequent toilet visits, it was the mind-numbing headaches. it was a constant pain in my head. so i made up my mind to finish up one assignment before lunchtime and then i can go to the clinic.
okay the story is really about my uber most caring fiance. so fast forward 10am onwards (finished my work, went home to sleep during lunch), fiance came over to pick me up and bring me to the clinic.
he literally held my hand, rubbed my sore back, helped me up and down the clinic stairs and he bought me soup and chicken porridge after my clinic visit!
no words can describe how grateful and indebted i was to him that day. i was literally a walking hot (as in fever, not glamourous) mess, all snotty and cranky and sensitive to everything (did i mention i was on my period?) and there he was, just patiently patiently holding my handbag, openign the doors, increasing the car aircon temperature, getting my meds etc. i was so out of it that i even let him see my weight when i stepped on the scales at the clinic.. which i never let him see me do.
i am the luckiest woman alive =) thank you so much sayang.

building up to The Moment
The Moment with the baju bersanding, i mean. Not the wedding.
so yesterday i had my second fitting.
(...and Trudie wasn't even there.. juts left me with her minions. baik jua they're all good and very very patient)
it definitely looked a whole lot better. after i could think and breathe in my corset (i just had dinner so putting on the corset was H.E.L.L.), i was able to look pass the unfinished bits and see the potential in the dress. they provided samples of the beadwork to be done on the baju and i loved the colour scheme and sparkle of the beadings.
this time i practised sitting down and HURRAY! it can be done. also, tried tucking in my tudong into the top and then concluded that i needed a wider neckline so that my neck doesnt look stumped.
im having second thoughts about the patching tho.. i think i want some areas to be patched and some unpatched.
but it depends on the next fitting. maybe it'll look good as it is. remind me to bring the right shoes for this next fitting.
this weekend is fiance's sister's wedding. busy weekend ahead!
much love,
rabi'a xoxo

mentally tired
juggling work and wedding planning ain't the best combo. add to that lack of sleep, lack of exercise and a significant decrease in exercise and i am basically a fatigued overworked under-exercised bride to be.
its at this point that i feel i just wanna get done and over with the wedding so i can jetset off with the husband for the honeymoon. like, i cant really be bothered if my wallpaper doesnt contain the exact shade as my curtains and i don't really care if my wedding invitations will be turquoise with pink flowers or vice versa.
i almost didnt care that my baju bersanding wasnt as amazing as i expected.
speaking of which..
i had my first fitting yesterday and ZOMAIGAWD i was so tired. i was running errand after errand (only 2 pulang) after work, which i left only at about 6.30pm. so my fitting started at 8pm and i hadnt even been home yet.
when she pulled out the baju, i was like 'hey thats nice!' but that was it. just 'nice'. no butterflies or strong heartgrip or huge ear to ear grin like i had when i first saw my nikah dress.
sad to say, i didnt have the Moment with my baju bersanding.
count in how my fiance said 'mcm baju you biasa2x saja..'. hmmph. men. and yes before you guys judge me, i allowed my fiance to see me in the baju bersanding because.. well, what the hell right? he hasnt and wont see the akad nikah dress and thats what really matters. plus, he's not the imaginative type.. just seeing me in the dress w/o the full regalia of veil and tiara etc doesnt do much harm. i'm sure i can still wow him on the day anyhow.
back to the non-Momental baju fitting. i got my cousin/bridesmaid to come in for the fitting as well and thank god she was there because i was so tired (also, i could barely breathe with the corset i had on and i was hungry) that i couldnt be bothered to give the baju the proper bashing it needs. cousin bridesmaid did me a favour by saying all the things i send her via telepathy.
thats a tip for you. choose bridesmaids who can receive your telepathic messages. totally saves you the effort!
in fact, if i remember correctly, i wanst even sending her any telepathic msgs. i think she can just read my mind.
anyhow, the next fitting is scheduled for tomorrow. tomorrow is also my first day for kursus nikah. heyyy im a grown up! hehe
lets hope after alterations, i'll have my Moment with the baju.
much love,
Rabi'a xoxo

121
1 month, 2 weeks, 1 day to go.
121 is also our anniversary =D 5 years this year!
anyhow, Friday was errands marathon day and i'm happy to report that most of the things have been done. i say 'most' because that day i got a call from Lauren Boutique to say that Trudie was down with the flu and can we move the fitting to Monday? (which is today..)
so that particular errand has been moved to today. will also be picking up my corset from Lili's today because i didnt see the point of picking up the corset since i wasnt going to go for fitting anyway.
so Friday, i got my aunt to come with me on running errands, partly because i didnt wanna go alone and also because i havent seen her in yonks.
Friday was Productive with a capital P. okay, so i actually forgot to meet up with rez but other than that, things on the previous post have been settled.
case 1: kain lapis for flower girls bought. now to divide kain/text parents so they can start making 'em into dresses.
case 2: have sent my draft jemputan and decided on colour scheme. will be picking up the dummy invite later and once approved by daddy-o, i can proceed with printing that in masses.
case 3: HASKA. after what took forever, me and aunt (actually, more like aunt. nda menyasal membawa her because she really takes time to choose ie ensuring satisfaction hehehe) finally decided on a colour scheme, curtains, wallpaper and kain for my window seat. all under 2hrs.
also, i managed to buy kain for to be made into a skirt, to go along with a top i made at Aaliah Asmara (which is my 3rd baju with them, to be worn next week at my fiance's sister's wedding).
kain which i prompt sent to Lauren because i thought she (Trudie) was playing truant with the flu and actually hadnt finished my baju. turns out, she was there but she did look sick. i had a look at my baju bersanding and to be fair, it was ready for fitting; it was just missing sleeves hee. so today i will be fitting it on with sleeves and hopefully it'll be done by the end of the week.
46days to go!!!
much love,

a little under 2 months to go
And what have i done since the last post?
design for baju bersanding all set and in process to becoming a reality!! its an ongoing/changing design tho, Trudie said 'well pin up lace or remove as we go along. whatever is comfortable'.
read: i want to see how much i can charge you.
hahaha.
also, part 2 of our honeymoon has been dealt with =) part 1 is hopefully not such a big deal cause its a frequently visited country but part 2 was a real headache because resorts keep getting fully booked or the room i wanted wasnt available during the dates i want. definitely glad that that part is out of the way!
Tomorrow is errands marathon day because theres at least 5 to do. i'll be running errands alone because all my bridesmaids are unavailable (tip: please dont make last minute plans because your bridesmaids have a life too). boo hoo =(
first stop: ezy printing! yes i finally finally finished the draft jemputan!
second pitstop: HASKA. hee they called up my dad to say i havent chosen the fabric for my curtains and which wallpaper i wanted. lol sampai org kadai pulang menagih me to finish up my room.
third stop: first fitting at Lauren. wheee. oh before that i need to stop by at lili's lingerie to get a corset i booked. amazing is that i can lose 2 frickin' inches from my waist just by wearing it.
final stop: meet up rezzykins somewhere to pay him money to be my videographer. yes i hired an amaaayzzzing videographer!
and in between, i need to settle my flower girls' dresses. i have yet to get them kain lapis for their lace and so tomorrow is que sera sera day. if i find the right colour/material, im just gonna buy it and hope they remember what i did when they become rich one day muahahaha.
Also, i have normal errands to run like go for face-threading and maybe a pedicure.
i know i know im suppose to save money but my face is hairy and my feet are ugly. threading and pedicures are an investment.
much love,
Rabi'a xoxo

and the countdown begins!
my wedding, my way.
forgive me, but i have always been headstrong, stubborn, loves the spotlight, spoilt and did i mention stubborn?
anyway, being a bride to be allows me to be all of the above, without a conscience hehe. i can throw bitch fits (ie be a bridezilla), make people do things my way or the highway and not have to feel guilty for the pleasure of knowing that on my big day, all the attention will be on me, me, me!
i know people say a wedding needs a bride & groom. banar plg.. but when u get down to it, do u ever actually bother checking out the groom's shoes? what you really look for is what the bride is wearing, her make up, her shoes, her accessories. so really, a bride has the license to go all out =D
anyhoo, i've had my share of bridezilla-ing tho i'm a bit complacent at the moment. all thats left to do is to get down with my designer at Lauren (i will make sure we come to a final design this sunday!!) and uruskan my honeymoon ie tickets and hotel.
just finished finalising my jemputan draft this evening, too. took me and parents 2 nites, over an hour each nite. believe me, my brothers are lucky i'm getting married before them. i doubt they'd want to sit down and go through each name and spelling and order of the wakil berharap names. at least now they can just nick the list off of me hehe.
cant believe its less than two months now! actually, i've picked up my baju nikah and baju berambil-ambilan on tuesday! i feel like putting it on whenever i open my closet and see the hanger bag! hee.
thats all for updates, to dearest kaka amal, hows renal?
much love,

lotsa green and orange
remember how i said i have a colour coded list? its like a traffic light system, green means fully paid, orange (because yellow doesn't stand out against white) means deposit paid and red means "haven't paid but need to look into asap".
happy to say that at this point, just over 2 months to go, there are lots of green and orange on the list. more in orange but certain things i prefer not to pay full until i get the items.. like pelamin or flowers.
the greens are mostly clothing or hantaran. theres a few minor decisions that i haven't made up my mind yet.. like do i need a tiara for my nikah and the exact style for my baju bersanding. then theres the guest list. i havent even started printing names.. putting down names of colleagues does not count.
but alhamdulillah, i can count whats left to do on TWO hands! all the doorgifts for the events are being managed by my parents and they've more or less figured out what to give for each event. i have yet to finalise the draft for my invitation because we're a bit unsure as to who should and should not be included in the 'wakil berharap' list.. but colour scheme for invitations and gifts are finalised so that one worry off the list. also, dates for all the events have been confirmed and we've started wrapping the gifts for orang membadaki. whee~
actually, we haven't touched on catering. i mean, food for bersanding is more or less figured out 'cause it comes with the place w'ere renting, whats left is to figure out what food to serve, which means food tasting! but for berbedak and nikah.. its pretty much nothing. my mum keeps mentioning this one particular caterer and my dad just keeps saying what kind of tent he wants for the day.
but then, i'll worry about that once my parents decide on which caterer to use.
now the bridal room. i've bought the bedding which i'll be using, also have decided on what colour/material to be used for curtains. we're leaving for Tutong tonite and the ppl from Haska which be coming over to measure up the windows and also the walls for wallpaper. to be honest, i havent really decided on using wallpaper or whether i'd just paint over the pink, but mum mentioned that i can get my dad to pay for the wallpaper as a wedding gift so thats one idea =)
now, have i left out anything? can't really think of anything now. plus tomorrow will be my first day back to work after a long luxurious 2 weeks holiday and i'm a bit nervous because i havent been able to check my emails regularly.. i just hope i haven't missed out much.
oh one thing not wedding related but definitely a must is the honeymoon! you know what i realise? as someone who is getting married in 2 months time, i get people asking hows the preps etc etc. but i notice this stark difference between what the men and women ask.
the women ask have i got a make up artist. where will i be doing the invitations. where am i renting the pelamin.
the men ask where will we be having our honeymoon -.-
i mean, i don't know if thats the general consensus or it just so happens that the men friends in my life are bold enough to ask that question. bear in mind that these men are my fiance's friends. the question was posed to us 3 times in a day.
anyhoo, that aside, everything seems to be smooth sailing, alhamdulillah.
by next post, maybe i'd have wrapped all the berbedak gifts and have something done to my room.
much love,
rabi'a xoxo

gorgeous songket
i think i should blog more often. the more i say a certain thing needs to be done, voila esuknya ada tia hehe.
like how in the last last post i said i cudnt find a matching tudong, found it the next day. the last post, how i said the songket for my skirt wasnt ready and just the very next day my mum told me she's already picked it up. ran downstairs to see it and it is as gorgeous as can be.
hee now all thats left to do about the bersanding outfit is to make it into wearable pieces! i've texted Trudie (of Lauren boutique in kiulap) who's currently in Singapore. she said she'll be back by the 26th(which is a saturday) so i made an appointment with her the very next day. can't dilly dally anymore.
cant wait to see the final product! also, i made another top at Aaliah Asmara just because. hehe. theres tons of weddings to go to this year so i need to to look my best. gotta represent the husband. hehe.
much love,
rabi'a xoxo

i spoke too soon.
only yesterday i complained about the difficulties of finding the right shade of [the colour i'm wearing for bersanding] and today alhamdulillah i found the right colour!
yayyyy much! yesterday i went to hokko kiarong to look for the shade so today i thought i'd give a try at the kiulap branch. not only do they have the most perfect colour in kain kasa rubia, they also had a gorgeous net material in the utmost perfect matching gorgeous shade, with sparkles!
hello long-enough-for-3-bridesmaids-to-carry veil!
hehe. essentially my outfit for bersanding is about 90% percent ready, the 10% being tailoring and also the songket for my skirt, which is still on the handloom (i believe).
so in terms of timeframe, its looking good.
an issue i need to worry about tho, is my room. still no curtains, no new cadar, no new paint/wallpaper. i changed my mind again abt the colour scheme because my floor is a peachy/pink shade.. so that leaves me with all pastel colours of the rainbow.
i believe if i didnt do art for A levels, i'd just have the basic primary colours to look to but as it is, when i say i want 'cream', there light gold, latte, taupe, rose, blush, ivory.
other than 'the room', i'm happy to say i'm pretty much done with the checklist. of course theres still deciding on a pelamin design and the colour scheme for my invites, but i can leave that until march =D
much love,

yayyyy much! yesterday i went to hokko kiarong to look for the shade so today i thought i'd give a try at the kiulap branch. not only do they have the most perfect colour in kain kasa rubia, they also had a gorgeous net material in the utmost perfect matching gorgeous shade, with sparkles!
hello long-enough-for-3-bridesmaids-to-carry veil!
hehe. essentially my outfit for bersanding is about 90% percent ready, the 10% being tailoring and also the songket for my skirt, which is still on the handloom (i believe).
so in terms of timeframe, its looking good.

colour coding
i spent over 2 months agonizing over what colour to wear for my bersanding. my mum had cream in mind. i rollercoastered between turquoise, purple, pink, red and white.
after finally deciding on a colour; another dilemma ensues. picking out the colours for my songket. so i was told i could choose up to 4 colours, sans background. i already decided on a main colour, now i gotta choose the colours for the songket design?
oh, not to mention that i had to first deside on which design i wanted to use. then, i had to decide on the pakan colour, which is the underlying thread in the background. typical, the colours are either gold or silver. its what gives the songket its sheen. but i was told that i didnt have to limit myself to gold or silver, i can choose any colour of the rainbow just as long as its metallic.
now if you're still with me, this would mean i'd have to choose up to 5 colours. thank god the main colour was decided.
there was a lot of nitpicking. see, once a songket is made, thats that. sure they give you strips of samples, but u cant really see how gorgeous a colour combo is when its just on a 4 inch strip. all i knew was that i definitely didnt want gold in my songket. i have this aversion to gold that is quite unsensible, in my mum's words. she would tell me to have a bit of amas untuk naikkan seri songket. but noo.. wasnt having any gold touch the songket. not letting any gold watsover touch my jewelry, tiara or pelamin.
the irony of it all is that i'll be getting married in the royal bershire hall, the one place which is simply decked in gold. haish!
back to the songket story. so no gold.. that left me with.. a million other choices. the fiance (then boyfriend) was quite sweet as he didnt mind any colour. but then that kind of didnt help because it didnt narrow down any colours.. but in the end i settled for soft pastel springy colours. which i actually chose coincidentally, ie not because the wedding was going to be in spring. brunei doesnt have the four seasons anyhow.
so there. i though abt the colour combos for abt 4 weeks, actually went researching for springy colour combinations, what looks good on asian skin, etc etc. i definitely did my homework.
2 months later, the 6 metres for my top, his trousers and top (my skirt and his sinjang were done separately) finally was ready for pick up. i wanted to wait for the songket for my skirt before sending it off but mum said i shud send what i have now because it may be too late if i wait.
happy to say i found a tailor i like. modern chic design, nothing too fancy or overbearing on my small frame and definitely nothing too modern for the conservative grown ups hehe. but now im faced with another dilemma.
after months and months of choosing a colour, now i find it difficult to find the matching colour for the tudong!
so much for being different.. however, i still have a bit over 2 months to find the tudong. wish me muchos luck!
much love,

check check check!
hello my very few but loyal readers!
on with the checklist. i have amazed myself in the things i'm able to do when i put my mind to it. y'know the checklist off the top of my head in the previous post?
flowers. check!
alter mum's kebaya. check!
um.. baru plg dua atu. haha. i have decided on who will do my curtains tho.. but not my walls just yet. also, i have a colour in mind. but thats about it from the last list. in addition are:
- i've hired a videographer,
- settled the whole borang/kursus nikah thing. will be attending that in march =)
- decided on a place for honeymoon. honestly you think thats easy but for someone indecisive as me, coming to a decision was just.. mind-numbing.
on to better news.
my outfit for nikah and ambilan are ready! went down to kb ystrdy and the magic is still there in the bajus. tried them on and i just feel 'wow'. and this time i brought my shoes on and everything looks put-together and coordinated. now all i need to do is bali tudong to match the bajus and im all set!
i have a checklist on word doc and i colour code the list. green means fully paid/bought. orange means downpayment/deposit paid and red means not paid at all.
happy to see that theres loads of yellows and greens. however, a few red things jump out and the red bits are actually the crucial ones.. like jemputan! havent even visited ezy printing for a quote. lets hope by the next time i post, thats all sorted.
and since i've been good (ish) with the list from the last post, i'll finish this off with another list and hope i get them done by the next update.
- numero uno wedding invitations! alhough i would love to invite everyone via facebook, i cant really invite my boss like that, right?
- my room. paint/wallpaper, curtains and a lil' bit of furnishings.
- tudongs
-to check out the accessories at nurhayana and book the ones i want for my dates!
wish me luck! especially regarding my room hee.
much love,
be'ah xoxo

don't be fooled by the rock that i got
9 January 2011 marked my engagement to the man who has been with me for almost 5 years.
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee i am engaged!
i'm not gonna go all mushy because that can do for nikah so i'm gonna take the girly route and gush about my ring.
its the most gorgeous amazing diamond solitaire set in 4 prongs and i bring it to sleep every night. its only been 2 days so lets see how long i tahan to wear it to sleep. bukan apa, nanti garit muka or it gets stuck in my hair?
i love my ring! i was thinking of playing the demure newly engaged and wait until people ask to see it but sometimes i catch myself flashing the ring to people at the office haha. well, it depends on how biasa i am with the person. but happy to say that most people ask to see the ring =D
now on to the more serious stuff. as a reminder to myself, there is only less than 4 mths to go and since i can only run errands on fridays and sundays and there are only 4 fridays and 4 sundays in each mth, i gotta go turbo.
first and foremost, i need to decided on my bouquet for bersanding and ambil-ambilan.
secondly, alter my mum's wedding kebaya so i can wear it for my berbedak. can you believe it barely fits me? and she was 2 years older than i was when she got married. hrrmpf.
miscellaneously (is there such word?), i need to confirm on a pelamin design for the one at home, decide on how i want to decorate the house, decide on who will be decorating the house and also what to do with my room (paint? wallpaper? what colour?).
thats what i can remember right now. im still calm tho (for now..) hee. i just stare at my ring and everything goes away =p
much love,
newly-engaged be'ah
